Using cloud SaaS, companies can plug in and subscribe to services that can be built on shared infrastructure via the internet. In our previous blog post, we discussed the benefits of moving to cloud SaaS . In this blog post, we will take a look at the two steps using which we can easily migrate to cloud SaaS.
Look out for Areas that require SaaS
Often, it happens that companies are overly enthusiastic to modernize their processes and adopt SaaS environment. Their intentions could be pure, such as to provide a user-friendly, intuitive and/or mobile experience. But migrating some processes or environments to the cloud can result in increased cost and can become more complex than anticipated. In such situations, CIOs are blamed for creating unnecessary obstacles on the path to value. Thus, while moving from legacy systems to SaaS, CIOs and their IT teams must identify and evaluate the systems that require innovation. Identify two or three business domains that have previously faced challenges working on legacy systems. Then, determine if these areas need a significant cloud-based solution.
After this, CIOs along with their IT teams can develop a strategy and create a project plan to handover responsibility for such areas to a cloud SaaS provider. Also, they must prepare themselves to manage procurement, evaluate vendors and lead negotiations for cloud SaaS offerings to maximize value for the enterprise by ensuring a smooth migration.
Evaluate SaaS Solution for Benefits
A good cloud SaaS solution must reduce the internal IT department’s workload over time. Hence, CIOs and IT teams must conduct a functional evaluation of cloud SaaS offerings. This evaluation must define SLAs for performance, availability, training, data quality and support. Also, factors such as security, the total cost of ownership (TCO), ease of data migration and ease of integration must be evaluated. With greater clarity around outcomes, companies can formulate an appropriate contract strategy. Ideally, a company should negotiate 6-12 month initial terms with cloud SaaS providers. This allows organizations to quickly and frequently get an opportunity to revisit the benefits versus actuals.
Companies must also establish metrics and measures with the business leaders for the expected business value of SaaS solutions.
Today, several top cloud vendors are utilizing purpose-built or highly customized platforms that allow them to avoid many security vulnerabilities that previously posed a problem. Many companies that have been reluctant at first, thus, are now reaping the benefits of implementing cloud strategy
