Changing jobs frequently at the starting of the career has so many adverse effects. Through working in different jobs, one can expose to new things and gain experience of working in the different domain. However, job-hopping is something that is not recommended by the experts. The employers do not hire frequent job hoppers because they cannot be trusted for a long run. In a survey of PayScale and Millennial Branding, it was found that about 41% of people believe that an individual should stay for at least five years in a company. Another 21% people believe to stick for three to four years in a company. But the young people, especially among the people born between 1985 and 2002, believes that job hopping is not bad, and one should start looking for a new job after one year.
Job hopping indicates as irresponsibility or less capable of committing. It also shows as a sign of lack of stability in your career. If a resume is filled with gaps and shows a short time span in any organization, it gives the indication that you may switch because:
1. You may be terminated.
2. Your work was not up to the mark.
3. You are unable to mix with the work environment.
Sometimes a series of pointless job hopping creates annoyances on the resume. It shows a lack of self-motivation, loyalty, and trust to the employers. Many students graduating every year from different streams and various colleges, the concern sometimes is that, they appear for the interview, just to grab a job offer irrespective of their interest and potential. It results in either non-performance or just lack of interest after a certain time. Therefore, soon they change the job. Then, resume is like, Teacher for six months, Waitress for three months, Shopkeeper for eight months, etc. which indicates instability and lack of knowledge. Some people are opportunity hoppers if they find a better opportunity than the current one, they hop!
